Standard vs Premium Truck Refurbishment: Define the Scope

2026-10-11 · China Reman Truck Alliance

The words standard, premium, rebuilt and remanufactured are used differently by suppliers. CRTA proposes a buyer-friendly comparison framework, but the scope must be specified for each model and order. The grade name itself is not a certification.

Standard: document the agreed functional work

A proposed Standard scope can include identity and basic history review, functional checks of engine, gearbox, axles, brakes, steering and electrical systems, agreed defect repairs, quoted cab/body work, a basic road test and a handover checklist. The report should identify parts changed, items not checked and known defects left unresolved.

Premium: specify deeper inspection and evidence

A proposed Premium scope can add expanded chassis and corrosion inspection, system-level dismantling only where quoted, a component-by-component worn-parts list, additional testing where feasible, and dated photos/video with a signed quality dossier. Do not assume that premium includes a new engine, new gearbox, full disassembly or a particular warranty unless the contract says so.

Separate marketing grade from export inspection

A refurbishment grade describes the seller's work scope; it does not replace any required export quality assessment. China's used-vehicle export guidance specifies commercial-vehicle quality requirements and third-party inspection reporting. Have the exporter and inspection body confirm the applicable requirements for the vehicle and destination before the transaction.

Turn grade names into an acceptance table

For each quoted grade, make a table with system, inspection method, included repair, replacement parts, evidence delivered, exclusions and acceptance test. Add a separate line for warranty period and claims process. The buyer can then accept or reject the written scope line by line instead of relying on a label such as Standard or Premium.
